Rag Quilt Jacket
Jacket Construction

Cutting Jacket Out

You have just enough fabric to cut out your pieces for the jacket so take a moment to place all your pieces so that you like your pattern placement. Looking at the back piece you can see that I have allowed enough fabric to flip over pattern for the rest of the pattern. The front pattern piece is placed so that I will cut straight between a row of blocks, then flip over pattern and cut the left front piece. The sleeve will be placed again on the lower left side of our fabric.

Cutting of the front pieces.

Make sure your pattern pieces are in line with the grain, if you cut these pieces out at any angle you will definitely notice later!

Sewing the Jacket

Sew both shoulder seams and then cut out all batting you can between layers. Now clip seams as before.

Sew sleeves to jacket matching the center sleeve to the shoulder seam. You can see that I have not trimmed out the batting yet. To separate the fabric from the batting you will need a seam ripper to clip the quilting stitches in this seam allowance. This is a little tedious but be patient.

Now clip all seams so that the seam will fringe.

Sew the sides of the Jacket and treat all seams as before.
