During the last Saga
Convention Children's Corner gave us all a instruction sheet for a three
tiered skirt, well I started to sew one up and ended up with this! Just
a few changes and a little ribbon trim made up into a fabulous skirt!
What about a top you say! Well the camisole in the Little Jammies
Pattern is really sweet and simple! There is a picture of the top with
the pants a P.J. top in the Scrap book under May.

Sewing
Instructions:
I
top stitch the tiers together and leave the gathering threads in for a
shirred effect so you need to have the color of thread to match the
fabrics you choose. I used a cream colored serger thread which blended
nicely with all three colors of fabric.
Step-1
•
Cut all strips and make 3
separate rings of fabric for each tier using 1/4" seam allowances.
Step-2
•
For top row finish both edges
with a serger or an overcast stitch on your sewing machine. Fold under 1
1/4" at the top to form casing for elastic and top stitch leaving a
small opening to insert elastic later.
Step-3
•
For second row, finish bottom
edge with a serger or an overcast stitch on your sewing machine.
•
Finish the top edge
with the narrow roll hem foot that comes with your machine or turn a
1/8" fold twice and top stitch in place.
•Now
sew 2 rows of gathering threads across the top, 1st at 5/8" and 2nd at
7/8". (Stitch length I use is 3.0) Gather this ring to fit top tier.
•To
get the ruffle to be on the top side, you are going to top stitch this
tier to the bottom of the top tier. Pin the 2nd tier to the bottom of
the top tier, make sure that the finished edge of top tier is even with
the 2nd gathering thread. Stitch in between the gathering threads using
a 2.0 stitch length.
Step-4
•
For third row, finish bottom
edge with a serger or an overcast stitch on your sewing machine.
•
Finish the top edge
with the narrow roll hem foot that comes with your machine or turn a
1/8" fold twice and top stitch in place.
•
Turn under 3/4" hem
and top stitch in place.
•
Top stitch the ribbon
trim along the hem line. (placement of ribbon will hide the hem being
top stitched in)
•Now
sew 2 rows of gathering threads across the top, 1st at 5/8" and 2nd at
Step-5
•
Insert the elastic and you
are FINISHED!
